Hall of Fame Inductees - Class of 2016

  Bob Powers
1978 Soccer, Hockey & Baseball

While Bobby Powers starred in multiple sports his senior year, it was in the Stoneham Arena where he really excelled. A three-sport varsity letterman, Bobby played soccer, ice hockey and baseball for the Spartans between 1975 and 1978.

On the soccer field, Bobby was a forward and was considered a play maker by Coach Kennedy. During his junior year, he led the team in scoring with 7 goals and 5 assists. He maintained his scoring title going into his senior year before an ankle injury cut his soccer season short. Even without finishing the season, he made an impact and was presented the “Most Valuable Player” award by Coach Kennedy and was named to the Middlesex League All-Star 1st team.

Bobby’s ankle injury did not stop him when hockey season quickly approached. As a first line right winger, Bobby was named the Middlesex League leading goal scorer, with 25 goals scored in one season. His 25 goals scored in one season broke the Stoneham High School record formerly held by 2016 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Frank Seabury, who scored 22 goals in 1965. Bobby had the third most points in the Middlesex League, behind 2010 Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Bill McDonough who was second. Bobby’s offensive line was the highest point scoring line in the Middlesex league and received the “Hockey Night in Boston” award. Bobby received the “Most Improved Player” award from Coach Burns and was named to the Middlesex League All-Star Team.

On the diamond, Bobby played 2nd base, shortstop, and pitcher when needed. He batted .227 with 3 RBI’s his senior year and had a pitching ERA of 7.63. Bobby’s quick defensive techniques helped him to be named to the Middlesex League All-Star 2nd team. Currently Bobby resides in North Providence, RI, with his wife Laurie and works as a Sr. Manager in IT Operations and Services for “The Robert Allen Group, Inc.”
