Dan Mahoney was a top track athlete in his
career at Stoneham High School. He was a key member of two track teams
that won the first ever state championships for Stoneham. Both teams are
Class of 2008 Hall of Fame inductees.

At the Stoneham Winter Letter Assembly Dan was
awarded “Most Valuable Athlete” for his track performance. During the
spring track season, Dan was state champion in the long jump, 2nd in
hurdles and ran on the relay team that finished 3rd which allowed
Stoneham to clinch their second State Championship in consecutive
seasons. He earned six varsity letters in track and was named Most
Valuable track competing in the high hurdles, long jump, high jump,
triple jump, and in the 100 and 200. He also set three Stoneham High
School records in the triple jump, long jump, and high jump. He also
earned a varsity letter in soccer.
After Stoneham High, Dan
attended the prestigious Moses and Brown School as a member of the
twelve man team that was undefeated in the winter and spring track
seasons. He was a New England Champion in five events: the long jump,
high jump, triple jump, hurdles, and relays.
athlete at Boston College from 1972 to 1975, Dan set school records in
the long jump and triple jump. He is listed among Boston College’s All
Time Top Ten Track performers in the categories for Long Jump, Triple
Jump and Hurdles.
Dan as a Vietnam era Air Force member competed
against the other armed services track teams and in other top amateur
track events throughout the country representing the Air Force before a
knee injury ended his track and military career.
Today Dan is
retired and resides in Wyoming with his wife, children, and
